No, but I’ve had enough cherry-picked verses shoved down my throat for 6 decades to know that the bible is a good bird cage liner.

Read it twice in high school. Worst book I've ever read. The old testament is a slog, minus a rough description outlining how to end a pregnancy, Job getting repeatedly assfucked by the "good guy" and Ehud killing a fat king named Eglon.

How the fuck can anyone get past the first 8 or 9 chapters of Genesis and still believe that shit? Or even more pathetic - how can anyone get that far and think the god described deserves worship?

Humans are a failed species. Time for an asteroid.

I actually read a little of it.

There's a lot of mistranslation and things that simply had no equivalent in English or French from what little I read. They did a good job to keep things as coherent as they could but in the long run every single spoken dialect needs it's own personal version of the book and this could change everything in the long run... kind of like how a message distort itself over time when you play.

Just go to a local church and ask any priest if they would like to have a coherent version of the bible that everyone could understood without changing the nature of the book itself or the general message it teaches.

The answer is unanimous. They all say "This is all we ever wanted all our lives!"

Judging any book that you haven't actually read cover to cover

Not a believer but still aware enough to know its analogies and parables and every sentence is not supposed to be taken literally. Think of it as how would you explain the universe to primitive sheepherders and get them to behave in a civilized manner. How exactly are commandments 5-10 or the golden rule bad advice if you want humans to not act like animals?

Make the book actually readable without having the necessity to decode every single verses.

Can you tell me what the people who wrote the bible meant when they wrote Genesis 6:1

Nobody can actually tell exactly what this means. Load of confusion and I'm not even talking about when the writings actually contradict themselves from one chapter to the other.

if you take that approach as not literally the word of god, it still doesn't have value as those same parables and lessons exist in other works, they're not unique to the bible, not the good ones anyway
the ones where god fucks with people to say "see? they still worship me anyway" are just fucked up

read it, smoked it. it's a dull read full of tedious tales and vacuous moralising. 3/10
