Yes. Not in the physical way like some other drugs, but certainly like many other "addictive" things such as video games, gambling, porn, and binge eating

Alcohol never clicked with me, but weed binges absolutely did. Unsure why, but for that reason I can't have it in the house.

Yeah, I know this from first hand experience. Been puffing more or less daily about 10 years now.

I have been through periods of time where I stopped cold turkey (such as when I go abroad). Never felt physical withdrawal except maybe it's a bit harder to fall asleep.

But as soon as I'm back home I'm straight back it again. Just craving that constant stream of dopamine

Weed is definitely physically addictive, it will mess with your sleep if you smoke too often before going to bed almost comparable to sleeping meds, you will also get cranky when quitting. Everyone who says anything else doesn't smoke enough or doesn't know what he is talking about.

That being said it works very relaxing, especially on long overly stimulating days. Best tip is smoke in moderation like always.

it's not clear that cannabis can cause physical dependence, but it can cause psychological dependence resulting in a diagnosable substance use disorder
withdrawal from regular cannabis use isn't potentially fatal (as in the case of alcohol, benzodiazepines, or barbiturates) or as painful and unpleasant as withdrawal from opioids (aches and pains, hyperalgesia, anxiety, and diarrhea), but it's not a picnic,
and as with any substance that affects the central nervous system, it's best to stick to occasional, moderate use if you choose to indulge at all

Weed has serious long term psychological affects, on top of physical like the lungs. Alcohol can destroy your liver and melt your brain if taken to Kennedy-tier levels. Pick your poison I guess. Drinking occasionally doesn't turn you into a lifelong retard or hollow out your organs.

>think weed is much less harmful in the long term
if you smoke the plant material, you significantly increase your risk of COPD and various cancers, so in that case, i think plain old "less harmful" would be more accurate, only because alcohol is so destructive for multiple organ systems and the entire alimentary canal
if you eat or vaporize cannabis in a dry vaporizer, i think you start getting into "much less harmful" territory

That’s not a physical addiction though, that’s building a tolerance to the drug, sure you might be cranky and have trouble eating and sleeping but your body is not going to stop functioning because you went cold turkey for a week after smoking an ounce a day.

Yes- not in the sense of having physical withdrawals that can kill you like heroin- but it absolutely is. I started smoking as a preteen and didn't quit until my son was born years later. I would feel fucking miserable when I didn't have weed, lost my appetite, music sounded like shit, games were boring, everything. I still think about it, but haven't smoked in over 2 years.

Yes, you can experience physical withdrawal symptoms from marijuana, though they tend to be milder than those from substances like alcohol, opioids, or benzodiazepines.

Common Physical Withdrawal Symptoms:

Headaches

Sweating

Chills

Stomach pain or nausea

Loss of appetite

Sleep disturbances (e.g., insomnia or vivid dreams)

Tremors (less common, but possible in heavy users)

Psychological Symptoms (often more intense):

Irritability

Anxiety

Depressed mood

Restlessness

Strong cravings

Who’s Most Likely to Experience Withdrawal?

People who used heavily and regularly (especially daily or near-daily use)

Users with high-potency THC products (like dabs or concentrates)

Those who have used for a long period of time (months or years)

Timeline:

Symptoms begin: 1–3 days after quitting

Peak: Around days 2–6

Resolve: Usually within 1–2 weeks, though some sleep and mood issues can linger longer

While not life-threatening, marijuana withdrawal is real and can be difficult — especially for those using it to self-medicate for anxiety, insomnia, or depression. If quitting is tough, medical support or behavioral therapy can help manage symptoms and prevent relapse.

seriously everybody died and then things got even worse, so then I started smoking weed and things got way way worse a little after that. And yeah I could've maybe not spent any money at all right then and actually bought a few bitcoin right then when it was 80 bucks but like I was saving up for cars that just would break down, all bc my parents dying ruined my credit and even with literally everything happening if at least my credit didn't get ruined, I'd be sitting around smoking weed all day with millions in the bank like it is actually possible and everyone is just actually stupid for putting so much effort into their stupid lives when if they just had way more money they could hire other people to even give a fuck about anything goddamn every day of my life is literally 24 hours of ptsd haha

It might not be a chemical dependence, but the habit of smoking, the dopamine hit, the feeling of being high, they're all addictive.
I noticed that I didn't dream when I smoked. When I quit, my dreams were downright cinematic. They were like movies. Plots, lines, cast, settings, all of it. Dreams came back big time.

That's true. it was more exciting when it was illicit. I live in Massachusetts and have about 10 dispensaries within 20 minutes of me. Before, I had to try and sneak around and hint that I might want some, and my dealer was sketchy as fuck. It wasn't cool buying weed when her 7 year old son was there.
It wasn't good for me. It definitely sapped my energy, and I got the Munchies in a big way. It was like a constant stream of food, and I couldn't control it. Not cool.
