2. there are a lot of privatized, for profit prisons in america. they profit off your incarceration, so it's not like these "tenants" are getting some sort of socialized housing.

I have 750k in shares from a former company that got rolled into bulk shares when they went under and sold around 1.5 mill, plus my IBEW retirement has around 600k in it, and I have several IRAs and some rental properties. By the time i'm old enough to retire there will only be two people of working age for every person of retirement age, meaning that retirement will no longer be plausible in our society.

For myself, I'm at the point where even if I can magically double my income, it still wouldn't be nearly enough for me to buy a house, start a family, plan for retirement, etc. It's mathematically impossible. I can't participate in normal "society" as such and see no point in working harder or upgrading my skills since it has historically never resulted in a pay increase. If I did have surplus funds I wouldn't keep them in a bank or otherwise put them somewhere the government can take them. The only thing that even keeps me going is the vague hope that things will change for the better but I'm starting to realize I'll be a very old man by the time that happens.

As long as my 401k and roth keep growing I'll have close to $1 million at 65.

Work for a while, spent a few years doing dangerous stuff and enjoying life. If I survive, intentionally let myself die.

I didn't plan on living past 18, I'm 25 now lol. Not suicidal anymore but I've seen too many family members die horribly as burdens, I want to die young and healthy where everyone remembers me happy and not angrily wasting away who they dread to see.
