It's gotten progressively shittier particularly the last decade or so. It's still a decent experience living away from home but a lot of the networking aspect is gone and academic standards are universally in the toilet.

You no longer meet the love of your life, nor do you learn anything insightful. Honestly tt's become an extension of high school.

Talking and sharing stories in my field all the people who went to college in the 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s had a similar experience.

All the people who graduated 2018 and after generally have absolute shit experiences. Its mostly due to digital footprint and lots of blacks and browns in the schools.

Hard to party with jeets you know?

I didn’t have fun in college but I did meet the love of my life there and got a lot smarter. Wouldn’t fault anyone for not going though.

I teach HS. Admin have been cooking the books for years, all to inflate graduation rates. For example, 50% is the lowest score, no matter what, even if nothing is turned in; kids can turn in work late, even the last day of school, with no penalty; kids can retake an exam again and again and again until the get the score they like; exams can’t have essay questions; lectures can’t be longer than 25 minutes; lowest exam and quiz scores are dropped; AP classes have been dropped because they had too many white and Asian kids, etc.

Couple the above with phone addiction and gen z socialization skills, it’s just awful. Imagine a lunchroom with 200 kids in it that’s dead silent as everyone stares at their phones.

This bomb has finally hit college. That IT dude is seeing what I saw just before Covid hit, and during Covid. It’s a fucking wasteland, honestly not worth it anymore but I need the paycheck.
