To clarify what i mean i would ask WHY the order of operations was the way it was. The teacher would just tell me that it is because it is and that's the way i need to do it or i'll get the answer wrong every time. I would say "no i mean where did it come from? who decided to do multiplication first" she would respond with "stop arguing with me and do it"

a simple google search says that people basically agreed on it being the order and it not having any hard set in stone logical reason beyond people needing to come to the same conclusion so this is why
