Earthquake is supposed to be perfection. A completely balanced move that lacks any riders (ok some but that's negligible). It basically says a move with 100 power and 100 accuracy should cost 15 PP. If you want more, something else needs to be reduced. Want more power? You get a stat loss. Want more riders? Reduce the accuracy. Want it just to be better? Call it a signature move and only give it to Legendaries

It amazes me how the og show is the only good thing about this ip.
The early games were just barely okay, some of the other games suck mayor ass. Korra itself was a huge mess that not only introduced awful ideas for the world and kinda fucked it in general, and the story felt like it was all over the place too. Lastly the netflix adaptation that almost rivals the shitty live action movie in quality.
I have zero faith that the adult aang movie will be half as good as the original show and I expected the new show to fuck the worldbuilding even further than Korra did. At least I can always rewatch the old show and appreciate the shit out of it for what it was even now.

I'm of two minds about the asspull. On one hand, it kind of ruins the drama and dilemma to have him just randomly discover a clean way out of it. On the other hand, it fits the themes of the show and it's a good message to send to kids to do your utmost to uphold your values, stick to your convictions, defend your traditions, and respect your culture. The drama of being stuck between two different duties (as the Avatar and as the last of the Air Nomads) is cool.

They should have done a better job setting it up. Seed more hints about the lion turtle throughout the show, talk about energy bending beforehand, have it be an established thing that some spirits can fuck with somebody's bending, etc. And then don't have Aang sleepwalk to the "island" but actively choose to seek it out on a gamble (even though it's a myth). So you don't take away his agency for learning the solution and have it just fall into his lap fortuitously. It would make it feel earned and like him defeating Ozai by taking his bending is an expression of Aang's efforts and personality, and a reward for him sticking to his principles.

TL;DR: It's not that the energy bending itself is bad it was just way too lazy.

But how would they freeze water without the cold? That should be something only a bender with both Water and Wind skills can do. Maybe after they learn earth bending, then with the combine ability of water and earth, they can bend ice. Lava bending should have been something only a bender skilled in both water and fire could do, while the hardened magma would require earth and fire. Someone with all four elements, like the avatar, could basically shape the world and everything in it. It's always harder for the pioneers. Look at athletics, how moves that 30 years ago were considered impossible are now done by everyone just to not fall behind.
Also consider that it might be hard for just a random firebender you pick off the street to cast lightning, but there might be naturals that just have affinity for doing it easily- in fact, Azula might've been one, she most definitely doesn't have a peace of mind at any point in the show. Meanwhile, Aang, for example, never actually learned to cast it, only redirect.

Skip to a 2 minutes and 25 seconds in. Aang literally cuts a creature in half with a rapid slash of wind. This is by far the most deadly technique in the show, but Aang never uses it on people because he's a pacifist.
We see him use it in season 1 to shatter a boulder before he's learned earthbending. And we see him use it again in the Legend of Korra flashback when he confronts Amon's father, and uses it to destroy his car

Reminder that Toph isn't just a strong bender, she's a prodigy and one of the strongest in-universe during Aang's time, the average earth bender genuinely cannot touch her. Aang's entire team is made up of pretty fuckig powerful benders, and even Zuko who for most of the show is considered a fuckup compared to his dad or sister, is still leagues above some random mook.

No need for bizarre claims of lost artillery technology. Still, it would be improbable to catch every last one during the time frame of the comet, even if you planned it all very well. It's too easy for a handful to escape and then flee to somewhere safe like Ba Sing Se. I think there's some comic that talks about baiting out survivors by laying ambushes at Air Nomad shrines sprinkled around (the comic is about Zhao trying to catch Aang in such a way), but that's a long shot for finishing off a systematic genocide.

Why is Firebending so inconsistent? Sometimes in the show, it burns everything it touches, and it spreads around like a real fire until it's put out. Other times, people are hit by it and they're completely unharmed. Like a firebender will shoot someone with a blast, and that person will fall or stagger back, but the fire will then be gone, and they won't be burned at all.
Other times, a firebender will shoot fire at the ground to fly or pull off an acrobatic maneuver. And the fire they shoot just...vanishes.
Why is this the case? It's like firebending is sometimes treated as a simple concussive blast with no burning or heat properities

What powerscaling/featsfags want and what the writers want are two different things. Writers are trying to tell a story, and are willing to be inconsistent in their depiction of the physical rules of the world in order tell that story. If you're trying to show Fire Nation cruelty, obviously a runaway inferno engulfing a village (with no people shown being burned) is one way to do that. But you're not going to show random citizens or soldiers horribly burning to death ever, because it's too macabre and dark for a kid's show.
