It took me a while, but I figured out that life is unfair. I've always heard people say it, but I never quite understood it, until I experienced it myself.

We truly get treated unfairly, and that's the norm.

The accidental path to enlightenment is experience of human suffering. But, you can't purposely choose to suffer, doesn't work. Your thoughts become things. You focus on your unfair existence and that's where you stay. You can let it all go when you're ready. Then you are happy to have breathable air, clean water, comfortable bed, good food, good poops. Everything else is insignificant.
