What's the general plot? What's driving the sex scenes? It's not necessarily the actual "The penis goes in the pussy" part of smut that actually makes it worth reading. You have to set the mood and make sure the characters act like they're turned on and working themselves up to fuck.

I totally relate! In addition to the problem I'm not a very gender fluid person so writing from the perspective of the opposite sex always seemed to me to be an insurmountable obstacle. Have you ever felt like writing fiction for another dude to masterbate to would make you at least partially gay?

I started writing a cyberpunk fanfic in march and I've had a lot of fun with it. Sure, it's cringy at times, but I'm telling the story I want to tell and I feel I've learned a lot from the attempt.
Imitation sincerest form of flattery, so find somebody that writes smut you enjoy and then draw inspiration from it.
Ask yourself questions as you read it. Stuff like, how did these two characters meet? Why do I as a reader care about them? What exactly was written that gives me an erection?
