Why were women treated like second class citizens/dumb child birthing machines throughout history until very very recently?

Since the Stone Age, females were the ones who raised children and cared for them out of pure maternal instinct, and men were the ones who protected the females. That's how nature was before. It's no surprise that our species used to be like that, but what about now? A woman with a gun can perfectly defend her family. That "need" no longer exists in everyday life. And this causes women to take control, although they are still physically inferior to a man with a gun, there is no comparison in short. The women barely grasped that.

men are bigger stronger and more violent. If things don't get their way they get emotional and use violence and force. Most of women's history has been trying to navigate brutish idiotic men, the majority of men.
It was only recently that technology began to make up for physical differences, and women can now do similar jobs and earn money so that they aren't dependent on men.

Because societies that did that had enough people to survive and conquer those that didn't.
Man overcame nature by being more cruel and indifferent. We will be continue into the stars as such once we are able to.
