Your relationship was over months, if not a year ago. However, women have a check-out period, where they slowly strip down the affection they had for you, so that when they break up with you, they already mourned the relationship.
That is the point what is really hard to decipher for a man, because women don't communicate - if things went south in a smaller time period and you haven't caught on to the problem when she decided to be looking for alternatives, then months later it is too late to retaliate.
