Overrated af in my opinion

Was the ending real or was it the afterlife/his imagination? I don't think he survived the shootout

Decent movie, not particularly amazing or life changing by any means. Solid 7/10

tl say its overrated would be an understatement, but it's NOT terrible

oddly enough, THE KING OF COMEDY was way better, and The King of Comedy sucked

The guy could afford an apartment and food, basic subsistence on a taxi driver wage. He even splurged for weapons and entertainment. I mean weapons probably aren't a basic necessity but they are at some point. I mean a knife and a means of creating fire should just be the bare minimum. Not that it'd do you much good in an urban jungle trying to make money. I mean you ever spent a shit load of time trying to cut things or start a fire? Mmmm microplastics I'm just going to suck up this dung infested water without boiling it and get a building permit after i drive a taxing for a century till I can afford a house here. Maybe when I get delusional from dying I'll seduce jody foster too.

Dude who wrote the screenplay was living out of his car in NYC at the time. His situation definitely influenced the movie.

There are 3 ways to look at it - he lived and all that stuff happened at the end, he died and it was all a fantasy while he was dying, or, probably best ending, he lived - shoot out didn't happen, and he is was mentally broken, hallucinating all of it, included Cybil in the car at the end.

That being said - it's a good period piece. New York City at the time was an actual cesspool so people watching this in the 70's probably had a cord stuck. World's a more safe place now no matter what Fox/CNN tells you.
