Bit of a spoiler alert. When you die, you wake up in limbo. Neither alive nor dead. You are at that point existing only in spirit. Your positive thoughts and prayers do make a bit of a difference as the recently dead can hear and see such things but only in their minds.

If you were nice to cats while you were alive, one of them will accompany you to your next state of being. No spoilers here but cats exist both in this world and in the spirit world simultaneously and if one of them ever took a shine to you when you treated them kindly they typically will return the favor. Remember that in the spirit world you do not see with your eyes but with your mind and when you first enter you are pretty much blind. It is this time where the friends you made among cats or other so called twilight species, owls, rats, coyotes, etc will be there to guide you.

Eventually you will learn to see not with your eyes but with your mind, but that comes later.

No spoilers, just telling you about limbo. Be kind to each other and in general. This goes quite a long way and the good you do will surely return to you in the form of karma.

Catholics specifically believe that they can help people by saying a mass in their honor (usually involving a fee lol) OR praying to Mary, since Jesus will always listen to his nagging mom and let your dead slut granny into heaven. In general I think you're supposed to ask God to do what you want, because that's how the vast majority of people think Christianity works.
