Those are not garbage men. Those are NYC Sanitation Police. NYC is so massive, they have specific police departments for sanitation, taxis, bridges & tunnels, environmental protection, taxes. Thats on top of the NYPD that has almost 300 different divisions. It's pretty crazy.

Sure dressing up like a general seems silly but do show respect for these kind of occupations as
1) Not many would do them -- in fact the only people who're willing to work as trashmen are migrants because they'll take whatever opportunities are thrown at them
2) Statistics has shown that working as a trashman is more dangerous than being a police officer or a soldier

Just imagine for a day or a week that your trash doesn't get collected because they're on strike: Imagine the smell, the unsightliness and of course hobos outside your house because they're attracted to trash like flies.
