You would be right if (and only if) so many people died as to create a genetic bottleneck. This would definitely be the case if the population got reduced to only a few hundred or thousand. But with there being over 8 billion people in the world, you could have 7 billion die off from some reason or other, and that would still leave a billion people left. A billion people is plenty to avoid there being a genetic bottleneck.

This doesn't stop a disease, it makes it stronger by applying selection pressure to be more virulent and to mutate into different variants. People were coerced into being guinea pigs and the only thing that happened was that pharma ensured that covid was always going to be a virus that would need to be dealt with in the future rather than a vaccine that eradicated a disease everywhere but for obscure pockets of 3rd world countries. Every vaccine has the potential to cause the disease or cause some other form of harm in a very very small percentage of the population. Benefit to risk is high. This is very different from taking a vaccine for which it will be another 50 years to fully understand consequences and multiple boosters and still having a good chance of catching the disease but a claimed "but a milder form" Benefit to risk is unknown; could be medium, could be low.
