Why did human continue using round balls to shoot when bullet shapes are far superior? For thousands of years no one figured out that round sucks for range and accuracy? Fucking how? I mean, arrows existed you would think someone would have had a clue, but no they were all stupid. I think humans were really stupid until the last hundred years. It seems people got smart in world war 2 they invented the bullet and tanks and shit for one thing finally.

Speed of production humans didn't instantly invent shit overnight nigger.

Because at that time they figured cannon balls did as much destructive damage as possible yes they weren't accurate and cumbersome but fuck they did a shit load of damage when they hit targets properly even musket balls etc they may have been inferior to our modern day bullets but their aim was to maim and cause as much destruction and pain to human flesh so they still did the job I guess it was a simple but effective design and probably didn't take that long to produce or make them that's what I reckon anyway.

These sling bullets are from the 4th century BCE. They have a winged thunderbolt on one side and the inscription on the other translates to "CATCH"

Bullets used in the civil war had a more modern shape. That improved accuracy. It was hard to develop rifled barrels.

its just easier to make, and without a threaded barrel a bullet shape just tumbles more, you think they were stupid but you cant even use AI to do the thinking for you

you need a rifled barrel to use a bullet shape effectively without it just tumbling around. and with black powder the barrels foul quickly, especially rifled barrels. when fouled there is too much crude in the barrel to ram the muzzle loaded round down it. so you`d need to clean it so constantly that it reduces your firing rate making it not as worth it.

however the minie rifle solved this issue to some extent in 1849. the innovation here being projectiles smaller than the barrel allowing it to be shoved down the barrel even while fouled. and lubed with grease in the grooves, also the bottom of the round deformed during firing to create a tight enough seal. pic related.

later breech loading rifles became widespread and replaced the minie rifle within 20 years after the minies release. so you didn`t have to shove the round down the barrel like with previous muzzleloaders made pointy projectiles even more practical. and then integrated cartridges and smokeless powders were also a big help, much less fouling.

1128 was the first weapon that could be called a firearm and also the first depiction of a cannon. the hand cannon. so it hasnt been thousands of years, it was 721 years until the invention of the minie rifle. still, a long time, but to get to the minie ball we still needed rifling, which didn`t come about until 1440 and wasn`t popular due to the fouling issue i explained. the arquebus in 1465 was the first firearm with a trigger.

Invention of lathe, and precision measuring. It's not difficult to understand. Also, your history is way off

so about 400ish years between the invention of rifling and guns with triggers before someone figured out a way to make the rifled barrel truly shine with an aerodynamic projectile involving greased grooves and a size smaller than the barrel that sealed through deformation.

which is still a long time. but consider, smaller population and most people were employed full time by farming. the pool of people with the wealth and free time to experiment with new designs but also the proximity to skilled metalworkers was quite small.

something like the minie ball could only have realistically been invented sooner if a world leader in government or business bankrolled the development of experimental weapons that might never pay off for decades if at all. and thats a very small pool of people with that kind of influence and foresight.

This
Making a rifled barrel isn't easy. Making the bullets whatever shape you want is easy. Lead is super soft and has a low melting point so it can be shaped and molded easily. Hardened High Carbon steel is much harder to make with an internal precise twist.

the guy who invented the minie ball, his name was minie, he was a french soldier and inventor, who built upon the work of a guy named delvigne, also a french soldier/inventor who came up with a conical deforming round 20 years earlier. expect delvignes round deformed during the ramming process, deformed by showing it down hard with the ram rod. rather than deforming during firing

even making the rifled barrel assuming you can do that now you need to figure out how to mass produce it, and that itself probably required the invention of new tools and processes. all the while they were still running into low firing rates due to increased blackpowder fouling of rifled barrels which dampened enthusiasm for development i`m sure. an issue not solved until the minie ball which relied on a smaller round to get into a fouled barrel and then deformed to seal the barrel during firing. so theres a chicken and an egg thing going on where the rifled barrel was barely worth developing without the minie ball and the minie ball was barely worth developing without mass produced rifling.

Because conical rounds weren't developed until the American Civil War. Same with barrel rifling.

There have been archeological findings of cannon barrels in the pyramids. The pyramids were used as a fortress with cannons on the very top good luck getting close to one when it can drop a cannon ball (not a bullet OP) on you from 50 miles away.

Hey there! I'm a 21-year-old girl from the US, a little on the adventurous side, and absolutely love spicing things up through flirty chats. I really get a kick out of teasing and watching guys squirm as I turn up the heat during our conversations. Iโ€™m definitely a night owl, always ready to indulge in some fun when everyone else is winding down. Just to be real, I find it hard to meet people out and about because I can get a bit anxious, which is why Iโ€™m all about connecting here. If youโ€™re down for some wild chats, hit me up on my app: e-my-zeth (just make sure to remove the spaces and dashes!). Can't wait to see how far we can take this!
