I just stopped using Youtube and am going back to actual TV. If you absolutely have to, try seeing if the download video sites or Freetube still work. Check the internet archive for bigger story driven channels like AVGN and the Nostalgia Critic. Check other websites for random reuploads. Don't let their lack of convenience let them dox you and create a bigger digital footprint to blacklist you in life based on habits they don't like. When things get bad enough, drop the internet altogether if you have to.

From my experience that's because the altchans are either too slow, have better moderation, or both (or there's just something like IDs in a thread) that makes their tummies hurt because getting their shitposting fix is harder and less rewarding

There was a layout change that would've seen the recommended videos be placed under the video you're watching, with the description and comments off to the side. It's been over a year, I've never seen it, and I'm pretty sure they rolled it back. If they're able to reverse something that minor in comparison, then I think there's hope.

To me, that reads like if their Almighty Algorithm can't come up with a "conclusive" age for a user ("I'm, like, 60% sure he's an unemployed 20-something, but 30% is saying he's actually a teenager, and the other 10% is 'I don't fucking know'"), then it's going to ask for age verification. If it's going to ignore stated ages (which, fair enough, I remember the early YouTube days when YouTube displayed your age on your totally-rad customized channel page [God, I miss 2011...] and more than a couple teenagers set their age to 100 just so they could see age-restricted videos; and a lot of that was outright porn, or the Budd Dwyer footage---yes, you could find R. Fuck sake what is the point of having YouTube kids if YouTube wants to make the whole site kid friendly? Just about every ad I've seen on the sites is aimed at adults so what's the big deal? If they didn't abandon the kids app so hard and made it so that young audiences actually have a better experience of the kids app there wouldn't need to be all this extra shit to "protec the children" and everyone would have a better time. Ads would be shown to the right people more easily, kids would be watching adult shit less easily, adult oriented content wouldn't need to be censored like some pg tv show, kids get kid shit, wins all round.
