Not really a pet peeve, but more so that it's hard for me to give a fuck and I have to pretend I care so I don't seem like an asshole. Someone I know told me a couple hours ago that he's sad and shooken up because his friend who's an addict overdosed and was taken to the hospital on life support. As soon as he left I went straight back to writing my paper kind of annoyed that he interrupted my thinking.

But I think that's just me being very desensitized to life at this point.

It has to do with conflicting messages they believe or a certain level of apathy or straight up ignorance. It’s not that they don’t expect it or have a second thought, they literally believe it’s going to go a certain way. Most people like this are man/woman-babies that have created an environment they live in where the negative consequences of their mistakes are shouldered by some other individual. They’re enabled to be stupid because someone will defend them or pick up the pieces of their mess on some level.
