Joe does everything that he does because of his secular beliefs, he actually seems to be one of the few people who go a step above the rest and actually live and train as if life is all about survival, competition and evolving to become better.

The logical conclusion of men in a Godless, humanistic world is a brutal bunch of roided up meatheads who train MMA and actively fight and kill one another for sport and survival. The former. Let me explain something to you - the "innocent halfwits" just meandering into these subjects while they act humbly deep down they believe they're really deep and insightful. They concede that they don't have all the information of course, but they think their regular simple philosophy on these things is really deep and insighful. When you don't get smacked down in competition against others you can imagine anything you want.

And Joe is this "regular" guy there to lead them into these things, so they believe it and go along with it. They really do think that their philosophy and thinking are smart, that they're penetrating deep into subjects. Elitism is really, really bad sometimes, but this sort of inverse elitism is similarly bad sometimes.
