I have had 2 panels on my roof since 2010 when the govt was paying for 80% of the cost.
I havent had to pay for power since.
Excess I generate is also building up store credit with the electricity company so even if I do move one day I wont have to pay for power for at least a few more years.

But I understand fully that not everyone lives in a flat place with unlimited free sunlight like I do. If you're in a rainy place or have mountains in the way it limits your options.

Land around here even way out in the sticks is like $150k/acre

You need land, near power infrastructure, and my states power company makes you beg and beg permission to put up anything more than 25kw. Even then the pay is like 2.6¢/kwh for solar (but they charge users 11¢)

Ideally I could get a time based tariff, but that is even more begging, then I would either point my panels west or get batteries too.

I got 25kw at my shop and home already. Did it all myself. I would have megawatts if it was feasible.

These are just evil corporate land grabs that unironically use up perfectly good farmland and risk making it poisoned for ages when/if the panels fail.

There was a massive one in Texas that got BTFO by a hail storm and destryoed all the panels which then released toxic heavy metals into the soil ruining it forever!

When these things are up and running, they just sell the power away to the nearest Megalopolis, so none of the money stays in the "Community" anyway. Pure scam industry.

Every roof on every building should be required to have solar before any arable land is even considered.
