And it's not about countries being mad about tarrifs being imposed. Its the blanket application of them over entire countries instead of targeted products which is what every other country does as a an incentive for locals to buy domestically produced versions instead.
The way tarrifs are SUPPOSED to be used is for example, if a country produced a microchip and sold it at a significantly lower price than your own domestically produced one. You put a tarrif on that country exporting THAT product so the prices are more even to encourage your citizens to buy your domestically produced one over the normally cheaper one without the tarrifs.
Trump didn't do that because he has this retarded belief that foreign countries are paying the tarrifs.
Increased blanket tarrifs like this historically (see most recently the Smoot-Hawly tarrif act) that directly caused th great depression.
You'll see a short term increase in tax income from peoples existing import orders. But then companies will stop importing as much, lowering the tax income, shrinking the economy due to less capital being spent, job cuts, unemployment goes up and suddenly, you're in a depression spiral.
