So my brother is crying because they’re putting his cat down tomorrow. Like he’s crying crying. I get being sad but it’s literally just a cat. My mom says to just leave him alone but this is a little much. He made the cat salmon and gave it ice cream. He’s just laying in his bed with it now. Should I say something

Your brother grew an emotional connection to an animal that experiences consciousness perhaps not on the same level as us, but similarly enough that the animal is self-aware and able to bond and grow emotions with someone like your brother. It's entirely reasonable to have a connection to "just a cat" on a level that would make it painful to say goodbye, to watch it suffer, or to know it's about to die.

If you can't empathize, that's fine, nobody is asking you to understand exactly how he feels. But on a human level it should be easy enough to sympathize and realize it's tough to let go of something you love, even if that thing isn't special enough to you to garner emotions.

Go pet the cat and hug your brother you sociopathic tard. And after that go talk to a shrink.

It is faggot. Its an animal, they clearly have shorter fucking lives than us so yes, if you get a pet there's a 99% chance you're going to outlive it. I get being sad, I've lost pets and felt sadness but it went away after like 2 days because it felt silly to think that a dog, cat, bird, or reptile would age the same way I would. Like I love my gf's cat, he's the best, but I also know he will unfortunately die one day. That's life. People can get sad but stop treating your pets as if they're immortal little clones of you that natural life cant affect. If my pet is dying, I just try to enjoy my time left, not sit up crying and making tribute content.

Just know that it is not just a cat to your brother. It is family. You don't need to understand it and there is no good way to deal with a person that knows their close family member is about to die.
