You are omitting context. I'm not saying that in every case lynchings were justified. These were the actions of a mob and without due process. This sort of thing should have been handled in courts with fair trials and all that.

Now, with that being said, in most of these cases, the lynch mobs believed the person they lynched had committed some horrible crime (whether they actually did or not is another matter).

The extremely high violent crime rate of blacks today also existed back then. Again I'm not saying all the lynchings were correct or justified, but don't be naive of the fact that many of them did indeed have it coming.
