I just did about 5 days on Project Zomboid on n00b settings.

But I also don't habe any op mods. The best I got right now as far as gear is Study Spears and I think Ordzo's Add-ons, which is pretty much vanilla+. I suck at that game so bad.

encumbrance is tied to strength, and what kind of bag you have. hiking bags have so much space you can easily overweigh yourself.
i strongly recommend giving yourself extra points in sandbox mode and taking the strength and fitness perks if you are struggling. fitness especially takes fucking forever to train up, but even strength can take months depending what level it is. better to skip that bullshit and start with good stats.
fitness is important because you can run faster for longer and you get less tired carrying a lot of stuff. strength is important for looting and for killing zombies quickly.

I do boost starting poiints, but I rarely get fitness or strength. I did give myself the military backpack and the harness though, because I modeled my character after me and I have great gear in rl.

vanilla character is so out of shape it isn't even funny.

Even though the harness can hold up to 65lbs, I only use it to carry a small handful of first aid stuff. I ocassionally use unrealistically when I'm in overdrive looting mode.

I'll leave him alone. I like him though. See if we can do anything with him.

Otherwise, Mr. Atomic Duck on youtube can do exhaustive mod highlight list videos. He seems to genuinely really enjoy the game.
You can try him to garner some ideas for mods to try or types you may want to look out for.
