You know what happens to people who can't work? They collect welfare or disability. If there are no jobs, everyone will be on welfare. The companies pay tax to the government, the government distributes it to the people, the people give it back to the companies in exchange for services. Everything still functions. The companies will slowly soak up all the wealth if they are not taxed enough, but that happens even in modern times.
