I've been here on and off for almost 7 years /b/.

How do I escape for good...?

Wut why? I've been here for about 15

Because this website sucks ass bro. 90% of /b/ is generic spam, porn spam, and gore spam, with occasional illegal material thrown in the mix.

There's a good thread or two every so often, which is what keeps me coming back, but the other boards are all too cucked to bother going on to. I want to break my addiction to this shithole

Stick to that. This isn’t the only place or thing that’ll alleviate the boredom.

Yeah, I've pretty much come to that conclusion...

Well it's more on lately than off. The problem is that I hate other websites because they're all echo chambers with 10 power mods that run the site, like reddit. Reddit would be so much fucking better if they actually enforced basic free speech principles in my opinion

You don’t. You just hope and pray that one day some internet police force nukes it from orbit. There’s a lot of illegal activity here on the daily.

If you're here on and off, why do you need to escape for good? I've been here on and off for more than 15 years. Some years I barely came, then started coming back here and there a few years ago. And it's comfy. The more I grow up, the more I understand it's full of weirdos like me. A particular kind of weirdo. Especially if you are still here after all those years. Don't take it too seriously and enjoy it, you're among your peers

If you're a younger guy, which I know you aren't, you could go to college and maybe get lucky with some kind of way out. Basically distance yourself as much as possible from the pariah culture.

The thing is, human beings intrinsically need to belong somewhere. It's hardwired into our DNA. So if you don't have any communities where you fit online or offline you'll keep coming back since it's the only decent option to fulfil that need. I know this because if I'm not /here/ I'm either somewhere else online where I feel comfortable or immersed in a game world or some other fictional landscape. That's how it's been ever since I lost all my friends in real life.

One thing I've found that helps with reducing time spent is making posts on
facebook
with a burner account. And then later coming back and commenting under my posts with new thoughts or ideas, like having a conversation with myself to discuss topics I'm interested in. It's my own little sanctuary where my past, present and future selves meet up and nobody else needs to know.

Honestly 4chan is a lot more like social media slop and doomscrolling than people seem to realise. Obviously there are key differences but the draw of loading up a site where a continuous stream of content that you don't expect (or at least aren't 100% sure what will appear) that hits the ol' dopamine. That is what draws me to 4chan 90% of the time when I have stopped using it for a while - boredom and lack of motivation to do something that I still want to do but isn't as stimulating and easily passive like reading a book, going outside somewhere, playing a game or whatever.

It can become habit (even when you haven't done it for a while) to just flip open your browser and load up 4chan because it is some easy stimulation in the same way people start scrolling forever on instagram or tikok or youtube shorts. It is low effort trash. People here perhaps realise it is a waste of time and harmful more than social media scrollers because it has a larger stigma (outside normal) and has some fucked up shit on it but it is a similar phenomenon.
