What’s the best way to tell your employer that you’d prefer to do the job you’re paid for and not other people’s jobs without getting in trouble.

Thanks in advance.

a better question is what you'll say when your boss retorts with "your job is whatever i tell you your job is"
are you familiar with the phrase "and other duties as assigned"?
if not, get acquainted

You say you were never trained or haven't done it in a long time, if you're lucky they'll go to someone else

Straight up tell him or get another job anon. Have some balls.

If you are in a tough spot and can't get another job and really need this one create an excuse to limit the time you spend at work to just the time that it would take to do what you're paid to do and nothing else.

Sick grandma, back problems, there's lots of things you can say.

The whole ''but the contract says'' thing doesn't work with fucking bitchy bosses because they're exploitative faggots that want to squeeze you as much as they can with the excuse of ''team work''

Unless you can prove that he or she fired you without a reason and you're willing to fight for it these are the two options that you have.

Be a man and say what you just said. They have bosses too, go to their boss and let them know they are mismanaging. Make sure this is actually the case though and not just that you're lazy and suck at your job.

By not doing other people's job. Employers and supervisors brow beat the next person in line until they realize they can't get them to do someone else's work, then they move on to the next person.

There are two kinds of middle managers. Sniveling weasels afraid of confrontation that will fold. And power hungry weasels who will never admit they are wrong. So confront them, and if they refuse to listen find a new job because those kinds of people aren't worth working for.

Then what’s the point of a job title?

Every grunt worker needs to know when to utilize strategic ineptitude.

It's NOT WISE to do a good job at shitty tasks, that aren't your job's responsibilities. (however, if it's something already expected directly in your job's description, you better do it).

If you're given a task outside of your job description that's miserable, just do a really shitty half-assed job of it. Hell, maybe don't even complete the task. You cannot do so badly that it looks like deliberate sabotage, but just do it with complete ineptitude.

You'll find they don't ask you to do that job again.

That's what you do any time they start giving you another shitty job's responsibilities for the same pay. You particularly need to do it if someone got fired or quit and they're just giving you his responsibilities without increasing pay.

Now on the other hand, if they're giving you some managerial tasks, despite not having a managerial title, that's **usually** them putting out feelers if you're management material. IN that case, it's best to do a very good job and the higher ups will probably recognize it the next time they're giving out managerial titles.

to give a brief, general--not exhaustive--idea of what functions a person in that job performs
note the "not exhaustive" part
that's important

Thanks for this, I’ll try this approach
