A wind-up or battery operated watch is useful if there is a power-out or disaster.

You don't have to wind automatic watches, anon. They wind themselves when you wear one, and they will last a few days without you wearing it, or you can use a watch winder. Hardly an issue. There are also solar powered quartz analog watches that last for 9 months without being charged.
