Democrats Approval Rating
As of mid-2025, the Democratic Party is facing historically low approval ratings, with multiple polls indicating a significant decline in public favorability. A Wall Street Journal poll from July 2025 found that 63% of voters held an unfavorable view of the party, marking the lowest approval rating since 1990, with only 33% viewing Democrats favorably.
This represents a net favorability of -30 points, the worst in over 30 years of the Journal’s polling.

Other surveys corroborate this trend. A CNBC All-America Economic Survey conducted in late July 2025 reported a -32 net favorability rating for the Democratic Party, with 24% positive and 56% negative ratings among registered voters.
A Quinnipiac University poll released in July 2025 found congressional Democrats' approval at a historic low of 19%, with 72% disapproving.
Similarly, a Harvard CAPS/Harris poll showed Democratic Party approval at 36%, down from previous months, with disapproval reaching 60%.

Even among registered Democrats, approval is underwater: 39% approve of congressional Democrats’ job performance, while 52% disapprove.
In contrast, 77% of registered Republicans approve of their party’s congressional performance.
The Democratic Party is now viewed less favorably than both President Donald Trump and the Republican Party, despite Trump’s own approval rating standing at 46% in the same period.

Voters increasingly describe the Democratic Party as “weak,” “out of touch,” and lacking a clear economic message, with particular losses in favorability among white men, Hispanic men, and working-class voters.
Democratic pollster John Anzalone noted that the party lacks credibility as a critic of Trump or the GOP due to its damaged brand.
With the 2026 midterms approaching, Democratic leaders acknowledge the need for a strategic reset to rebuild trust and reconnect with key constituencies.

Bernie Sanders is independent because he doesn't think the Democrat party is left wing enough. I am not convinced this means much. She seemed committed to the leftist narrative to me.

Once trust is gone it is almost impossible to win back. So you have to kick out all the people who broke faith with the constituency and start over with new blood.

I'm not convinced this will actually lead to a real change in how the DNC does things but it might allow their reputation to recover enough for them to win elections again. We won't see a real change in how the Democrats do things in power until the DNC's leadership is gutted but they are probably going to cling to power for a while yet.
