Jet fuel can reach temperatures of 1500° C. Let's conservatively say that the WTC steel beams reached 1000° C - that's an estimated 90% reduction in strength despite no 'melting' occurring. but at the temperature it burns, steel loses 2/3rds if its load capacity. That combined with the massive structural damage caused by the planes when they hit, made the towers falling inevitable.
You don't need to melt steel to bring a steel building down, you just need to knock down a fraction of it and heat up the rest enough to soften the material. Then the weight of the building above the impact does the rest.
