I was taught alot about jesus as a child. I was a catholic even. Truth is that eventually you will find that none of it adds up.
They tell about jesus giving away his belongings and preaching basically everything that people today would consider moderately progressive left, but you wont see any of that in those religious circles. The hypocrisy is totally lost on them aswell.
Skydaddy is a form of control and for people that are scared of death and/or somehow lack the ability to make their own moral compass. They require the fear of going to a terrible place after death just so they dont do anything horrible to others.
Fairy tales to scare children (and now adults) into being nice and to justify systems of authority.
You can find the bullshit in the simple things even:
God made the earth in multiple days but he created the entire fucking universe in the blink of an eye. Thats just stupid.
Religious people kept insisting the earth was flat and somehow their god never told them it was round. Very stupid.
God made everybody perfect but somehow that bit of skin on the penis was bad and the clitoris on a woman was bad.
Its all just a big pile of mumbo jumbo.
If you really want to be like jesus, you definitely dont want to be thinking or doing in those ways.
It only worked so long because the common people never had the ability to know or learn better.
