There used to have a thug in my town. He used to steal and terrorize everyone, everyone wanted him gone but nobody dared testify against him, so he continued stealing and terrorizing everyone.
One day the police raided his house. Later he was accused of having CSAM and was jailed. I was there when the police seized his things, all the town was there. The computer they took was an old 486 that hadn't been turned on in 20 years and was on top of a heap of junk in his front yard. Everyone who was there knows that they couldn't possibly find anything on a computer that was just a piece of rust. Everyone was happy he was gone, so nobody questioned what the police had done. But it was fucking terrifying to realize that they can put whoever they want in jail just like that. This time it only was a piece of shit that nobody will miss, but what if the next time they decide it's you who must be punished?
