assuming op is willing to make an active effort towards improving his/her life, its better to break problems down to bite sized pieces that are more manageable.
if, say, you're trying to lose a bunch of weight, having the mindset of "ok, im going to do this on mondays, im going to do that on tuesdays, im doing this on wednesdays..." vs "im 600lbs and i hate myself" is going to yield two completely different results 9/10 times.
