I wonder what it would take for nudism to become completely normalized and mainstream in North America. I like to imagine an A list celebrity like Scarlett Johansson participating in WNBR and being completely open about it, discussing it on talk shows and seeing how that would move the needle. I part of me believes that if Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce came out as nudists and were completely unabashed about posting nonsexual nude pics of them on instagram, we would see a massive wave of mainstream adoption of the lifestyle and lots of nude events in most cities (nude night at the pool, nude recreation and social clubs, literally anything) making it accessible to everyone regardless of how far they are from a nude beach or other venue.

I agree that if there were more celebrities who were totally open about it and posted a lot more about it, thus taking the discussion into the mainstream, it could go much, much further. Especially among the young who love to copy and emulate everything celebrities do. With the example you gave, I’m 100% certain you’d have wave of swifties descending on nude beaches, and when asked they would insist they were always a nudist and liked nudism before it was cool.

In any case, more widespread acceptance would be great, as it would allow for more nudist opportunities and facilities. To me, every beach is a nude beach if it’s quiet enough, so I’d like that to just be the accepted culture. All beaches being clothing optional by definition. Having more events and social recreation options would be great too, but society needs to be reconditioned that being nude is nothing to be ashamed of.

Honestly, just starting more discussion and exposure towards the lifestyle. Doing more documentaries or TV reports (others that don't dwell just in "how weird this is") about nudism would be helpful. There's also an issue about how people in the US perceive nudity as inherently sexual, now young people also expressing that through social media.

The biggest issue I have with this point is that celebrities no longer have the status they used to have regarding spreading awareness about any subject. So even if an A list actor or singer would say they are nudists, they'd get backlash and also acceptance so at the end the topic would still be at the same point. I do remember there was an actress that talked about how she attended an arts school and would do naked joggings at night but can't remember her name rn.

You can only believe that if you've never seen Blue Velvet, Don't Look Now, Crash, Last Tango in Paris, Lust, Caution, or just have a totally superficial relationship to the canon of cinema and art generally. Likewise I blame the sex positivity movement for making the first thing most people think of when they hear the words sex positivity a polycule of the five most dysgenic men you could find sharing a below average woman

I realize I've been writing more about sex positivity than body positivity and nudism, but I think a lot of people elide the difference between them and will dismiss the former as an extention of the latter. Besides, the arguments that advocates of both make for them are not that dissimilar in many respects, even if there is still a big push for nudism to be seen as purely platonic and non-sexual (which it should be in certain contexts).
I just like to imagine a time in the future where nudity and sex are thought of in North America more like they are in Europe, and I would love to see the general public accept nudism and nudity to the point where pictures of you naked on the beach or even doing a playful streak around the neighborhood are met with no more than some polite teasing followed by a "good for you!"

Yeah, I think by this point people shouldn't be shocked to see nudity. At this point I don't see in getting offended by people taking the subway in their underway, I think it's one of the tamest rides. I attended a nudist meeting a few months ago in my city and honestly it was surprising to see people not really caring that there was a group of nudists in the middle of downtown.

I think the producers just wanted to add shock value by exposing the contestants to low temperatures but that was really dangerous as I can remember at least 2, a man and a woman, got pretty bad and abandoned the show in the middle of the competence.

I still have the theory that the town that allowed the crew to film the reality there didn't know the contestants were going to be naked or locals complained about it and they had to move the goal after filming the pilot and an episode. But yeah, I think something they could've added was either inviting the contestants' friends or family and not let them get dressed after winning after all they already exposed themselves in a reality show.

I don’t think the town really knew about the show at all. It’s not like the council needed to make any arrangements for the filming, so I think they just rocked up with a camera man. The pilot had the end point as quite a large town, but all contestants fashioned some rudimentary clothing for that bit, which was a shame. The first episode had the end point in a village, and that one was better as they stayed naked till the end.

I just think that part of the show was the most interesting concept and took it away from your typical naked survival show that’s been done to death. That part should have been longer or a more crucial part of the show, plus far more entertaining. I doubt anyone complained, as every interaction in that series showed just how accepting most people are of nudity. To add a bit of context, this is the least likely part of the UK and the UK is one of the least likely places in Europe to get any acceptance, so it’s really saying something. Don’t get me wrong, I think they should have sticked to small towns and perhaps changed the town each episode. Doing it in major cities is both complicated and potentially dangerous, plus there’s more likelihood some boring asshole is gonna get offended. It would have been fun watching them make many decisions about whether to expose themselves in hope of winning, or hiding and covering etc…

Let's spitball some ideas for a better nudity oriented tv show:
I like the idea of doing something that encourages normalization and a more playful attitude to nudism while still playing off of it still being outside of most people's comfort zones and a lot of them being embarrassed by it. I would still rather it come across as fun and exciting for the participants rather than just something humiliating that they are doing just because they are desperate for money, but we can certainly play into embarrassment to a certain extent.
I'd like to see people do progressively more daring and exposing nude challenges in public settings. Maybe start with things like going to a nude beach or a naturist resort and progressing to hosting a party where they're the only one naked or appearing naked on stage.
Dramas like that French show Nu where the show's whole concept is related to nudity could be useful too. I like the idea of a screwball comedy about a woman accidentally booking her vacation at a nudist resort and being incredibly embarrassed and reluctant at first but eventually learning to love it, and even get excited by it to the point of becoming an exhibitionist and getting into wacky hijinks as she does more and more daring stunts in public.

I have some. The first being a program about nudists/naturists that have never told their families, friends and co-workers about their lifestyle. The catch is that each participant gets set up for an interview in the nude to answer some questions about what would be the reaction of some of the members of their social circles and without knowing mid-interview they'll find out their acquantainces are there and they'll have to interact with them without dressing back.

Yeah this is great. I think there’s plenty of ways to go with this too. I don’t think it’s difficult at all to get both people willing, and a few workplaces of theirs to go along with the concept. I wanna see someone curious about this sort of thing and then diving head first into just living without clothes for a month and what it means for them. I think for some, it may even be a task just to be naked at home constantly. But walking outside, getting public transport, going shopping, running errands and going to work… all naked… that would be fun to see.

The basic issue seems to be attracting younger people. I don’t really know how to solve that, even as an under-30 nudist myself. Part of me thinks it’s that younger people don’t really like the idea of being part of clubs or organisations so much. They hinted on the free time issue as well, as it was funny seeing it dawn on the old folk that obviously younger people have to work. I’m sure many wish they could lounge around naked all day, but can’t.

I don’t think it’s as much of a crisis as they make out, as many nude beaches I go to have lots of younger people on them. It’s just it’s a more casual spur of the moment thing. No planning or registration, just go to the beach and do what you’d usually like to do, only naked. The WNBR also has a majority of young people too, showing that there are significant numbers who are part of, or interested in the lifestyle/subject.

I know of the many reasons younger people can be put off, but I think there will still be plenty of nudists in 30 years…

Like the people in that doc and many in this thread however, I would wish there would be more. I’d love to see it become a much more mainstream thing, and despite how it’s always billed as a killer for nudism, I think Social media could help in this. The free access to so many people and opinions around the world will show some people just starting out that there are millions more people like them who enjoy nudism. That it’s not just something strange and unique to them, and hopefully it can be used to spread the lifestyle rather than be a reason no one wants to try it.

Hotels are fun because obviously some people come from cultures where they are not used naked. So you get a mix and can have some fun CFNM and CMNM interactions. There’s also some funny reactions that can happen and interesting conversations too. Once or twice I’ve got to explain to people why it should be naked only and they have actually accepted and come over to the naked way of doing it.

I remember once in Prague, the sauna had a strict nude rule. An hour went by and I saw they had eventually convinced themselves to take the plunge and they walked in totally naked… no towel or anything. It’s hottest up there, but I find most hotel ones don’t get anywhere near hot enough… no matter how much oils you put on the oven. You are supposed to do 15 minute stretches, but it’s fun watching Brits or Americans come in and not be able to bear more than 5 minutes lol. I often am still in there when they come back in ten minutes later to try again, which often leads to small talk and conversation. Proper finish sauna or dedicated spas often have hotter and better ones, which are a different story entirely for both the nudity and heat haha.

I was really glad that couple were seemingly down for some fun. I only wish it hadn’t been so close to closing time and it could have gone on longer. I never got to the bottom of why the guy did what he did, but it’s fun to think about why. Literally never spoke to them apart from those last words about being in trouble. Sure. We were in a hotel pool one evening and naturally she was skinny dipping which was nothing out of the ordinary for her at all. It's where I stand on too. Yeah I know what you mean. Quiet beaches are obviously the main place for this type of thing, as no one can be that surprised you are naked (at least where I am), but it still a shock. I love that clothed/naked interaction and relish being the only one naked in situations. Outside of beaches, hiking in nature is also a bit of a less than forbidden place to go nude, but still surprising. Most people question me less for why I am naked and more where my clothes are, as I can’t stand walking with a backpack, so I almost always leave my clothes elsewhere. It has the added bonus of not being able to cover up, but the feeling of freedom is amazing. I mostly engage in nudism when travelling, but I wish I had more options.

Oh on beaches I always like to stray far away from my clothes at some points. Doing a lap of the whole beach or the trails surrounding it. Same anon. I’ve mentioned in previous threads how if I had the money, I would start a town that truly was nudist. Not an oversized resort, but a proper, functioning settlement with shops, businesses, cafes, restaurants and public transport. Unfortunately, the closest we have to that seems to be Cap d’Agde, which is a resort, but you can shop naked… and Charco del Paolo on Lanzarote which is an actual village, but the one shop requires you to wear clothes for some stupid reason.

Getting my clothes stolen is the absolute peak of my dreams, but there are some occasions where it would really leave me screwed. Perhaps a very short and hopefully quiet ride, but not long distance haha. Haha classic. That could happen even when you’re not locked out. I’ve only had one person get in an elevator with me naked and it was an intense experience. I just got off at the next floor so I didn’t have to go down to the ground floor.
