Alfred Nobel was an arms manufacturer. Spent most of his life making bombs and gunpowder and selling them to countries at war.
When he was about to die, single with no children, he decided to use all his money to rewrite his legacy by creating the Nobel Prizes.

And now most people only know him as the Nobel Prize guy.
Some know he invented dynamite, but they tend to think of it as a misused mining tool. Not realizing that he made gunpowder too and sold both as weapons.
