What do you do with your free time? What gives you a sense of purpose, and not a life wasted?

I play video games. I've got a lot of hobbies, but I don't think I'm very productive or anything. I don't know what gives me a sense of purpose. I've got a job and I'm doing what I'm told

Construct things you can use.
I own a family farm, so I spend my free time building shit like barns, outbuildings, chicken coop, etc.
It gives me satisfaction to start with bare dirt and wood and wind up with something I can use after the labor.
Plus, figuring out how to do something you've never done before is challenging and helps you expand your knowledge base.
I'm pouring a huge concrete pad this weekend - the first time I've done something this big and thick (6" of 5000 psi concrete, 20'x30').
There are a million "how to" videos online, just pick a subject and get cracking.

Everyone want's like this discernable thing but the truth is you're just a dude like any other. Maybe better maybe worse but still just living doing whatever. Lol, funny thing is im a pillar of my little community. Everyone knows me and loves me. Hell i would be at the football game but i told everyone ive been feeling ill, which i am. If i really wanted to i could get ahold of the governor of my state in less than two phonecalls.

Yes i have a fulfilling life. Im tired constantly, but thats the consequences of having a life that involves real people and not picking up a controller. I havent been able to touch a video game since... Jeez... Maybe Morrowind.

Get a family and a profession and you wont have "free time" and, at the same time, you will have a sense of purpose and, therefore, a life not wasted

Work essentially has me pushing the bleeding edge of a niche technology. Since I do it well, it feels good. Is it a waste in the grand scheme of things? Absolutely, US society is tanked, so this tech will get lost in the rubble of the collapse. But hey, a miracle may occur and whites might grow spines and reclaim the country and our previous morals. I don't expect it though.

I got the profession, but women just weren't... available, for the family bit. An unfortunate side effect of choosing a male-dominated field I am afraid. A common occurrence too, where I work. The meaning of life is life. There is no purpose. Do what makes you happy, be good to people. If there’s something about your life you want to change, change it.

I’m just a regular dude, I’ve realized that’s ok. We always feel the need to progress things. Like what am I supposed to do? Change the world, develop a new technology? I have a demanding job and an amazing wife so sometimes I’m super productive doing yard work and other times I jerk off on 4chan for hours. I like sports and cigars and I’ve just gotten ok with the idea that whatever it is I’m doing is what I’m supposed to be doing. In the grand scheme of things our life is ppretty fuckin meaningless and we take life and our position in it far too seriously. Enjoy it because it can be gone tomorrow.

OP. Working in the restaurant industry, back of the house.
I worked it for a decade, got burned out, left....held down a new job that I fucking hated for 6 years now.
Recently got a second part time job in the restaurant industry working nights.....and holy fucking shit. I felt ALIVE.... like...after my shifts i was humming with energy....i felt SO fucking good to be back it was awesome.
Making music, and drawing stupid pictures rules.
Also Cinema. good movies. or whatever.
I love seeing movies in a full blown movie theatre. Regal..where I live offers this thing where you can pay 20 dollars a month to see....any movie you want, any time, all day long. well...some are extra for like 3d or whatver but its like 2 bucks.... but dude that really got my goat

I play video games and browse the interbutts, also drugs and write and draw sometimes. After trying to find a purpose in life, I just gave up and do things I enjoy. I'm much happier now, even watching society potentially collapse is comfy.
