You need to have a somewhat high income and a working partner to buy a house nowadays.

But in the '50s, a factory worker with 5 kids and a stay-at-home mom, could afford to buy a decent house without working overtime.

What happened?

You kids don't understand basic budgeting. Quit buying your avocados on toast and actually SAVE!

Because in the '50s that stay-at-home mom was a stay-at-home mom. She didnt join the workforce, bringing the salaries down.
if you have a problem with salary vs real estate prices ratio going down, then go and complain about women joining the workforce and immigrants joining the workforce
>i dont want to say anything that might sound as if im..
then shut up

houses only cost about two years salary in the fifties. today they are are about five years salary. inflation has destroyed the value of money relatively speaking so everything you buy requires more of your cash. wages have fallen since the 50s so you make relatively much less today than you did back then. blame politicians for favoring the rich and corporations, and destroying unions. blame americans for favoring cheap shitty goods manufactured overseas by people making pennies thereby causing loss of american labor.

Bankers buy up all the houses to throttle the supply, boosting prices, and making people go to banks for loans.
Friends of the bankers import people from other places to further boost demand.

thats completely irrelevant to the house prices, its just something for the financially illiterate to complain about. If Bezos', Musk's networth went up 100x, it wouldnt make any difference in the life of the masses, but theyre too dumb to comprehend that
