Nothing will immediately happen. It just will no longer be supported with further updates. Which isn't really a bad thing anyway because it means no more forced reboots without my consent.

my windows 10 installation is fucked anyway and takes 9 minutes to boot on an m2. I will reinstall the LTSC version. As for my thinkpad laptop, i planned to dualboot xfce mint anyway to preserve resources and brittle laptop battery and hardware.

Windows 10 has a one year Extended Security Update arrangement here in the UK and throughout the European Union.
Don't know whether the same applies in the USA or elsewhere around the world.

they aren't implying that you won't be able to upgrade.
they just won't give you updates... unless you're an EU citizen, in which case you get extended updates for a year.
Anonymous No.941107980 [Report] >>941121575
and as for "Windows 11 (during setup) won't allow you local accounts anymore"
keep a Windows 10 setup. You can then update from that to Windows 11.

it's annoying. usability-wise it's a downgrade.
the "new" explorer context menu hides all the useful shit.
the taskbar will no longer properly highlight the currently active window. it'll only put a short colored dash under the icon. this is much harder to spot.
the shit goes on and on.
but at least the taskbar's clock area now can show you the seconds.
Anonymous No.941108091 [Report] >>941118590
>>941107812
It has some bullshit but you can change/get used to it relatively easy.
The big problem is that it requires your computer to have a TPM 2.0 chip which plenty of relatively modern machines don't have. So for a lot of people, it's either buying a new PC for no real reason, sticking with an unprotected OS, or switching to Linux.

no.
they'll probably still give you the "definition updates" for the antivirus.
you just won't get monthly system updates.
I'm fairly sure you will always be able to *upgrade* to Windows 11, at least the version that's out right now. in a few years, you might have to upgrade to that first, then to newer releases, i.e. it'll take a few more reboots. think of it as upgrading from windows 3.11 to 95 to 98 to 2K to XP to vista to 7 ...

except windows 10 and windows 11 are so much closer to each other. it's some changes to the kernel, some changes to the way everything looks, some more annoyances, but generally they're very similar.
you just wait until they come out with windows 12.
and then windows 13, which they'll skip because it'll have to be the sucky one of the tick-tock cycle of suck that microsoft has been perpetuating.

the monthly updates consist of security updates. if you go with that for too long, you'll "ride with" various holes that'll be discovered but you haven't closed them. if you keep your browser and mail program up to date, I wouldn't worry, because that's where most of the bad shit hits you... but if someone manages to get on your local network, they'll eventually be able to own your computer.

Decided to update. TPM 2.0 is literally a 10 dollar daughter board and people who think they can just 'switch to linux' are going to be a laughing stock in the next few weeks. Just be prepared to see way more ricing threads and weeb bullshit. And then when you break their mentality by proving linux is a fucking cuck-tier shithole full of trannies they retort by trying to nuke the thread with illegal porn.

>In the latest Windows 11 Insider build, the company has officially shut down popular workarounds that let users set up Windows without an internet connection or a Microsoft account.

For years, Windows power users and privacy purists have relied on clever hacks like typing “bypassnro” or running the mysterious “start ms-cxh:localonly” command during setup to sneak past Microsoft’s insistence on cloud-connected accounts.

Probably. If your computer is more than 3 years old you will almost certainly have to get a new one to support Windows 11, and therefore you'd have to have a new computer in order to run the necessary security updates for 10.

But you should be buying a new system every 2 years anyway, at minimum, so it's really not much of an issue. If anything, Microsoft is doing everyone a favor by forcing the retirement of aged-out hardware.

no, moore's law is dead, there's no reason to buy new computers every couple years, they work perfectly fine much longer than that unless you're trying to push framerate limits in bleeding edge games, so maybe you need a new GPU, that's really it
