Funny how a picture can lie so easily.Which means you're only telling one side of the story. From 2015-2024 not just the Dems but also the Rep gerrymandered States. Now lets look at how many
Democratic-led gerrymandering
New York: Democrats attempted to pass an aggressively gerrymandered congressional map after the 2020 census, but the state's highest court struck it down as unconstitutional in 2022. The court-ordered map helped Democrats retain more seats.
Maryland and Illinois: Democrats passed gerrymandered maps in these states after the 2020 census, but the efforts were generally less effective at securing gains than aggressive Republican efforts in other states.
Republican-led gerrymandering
Florida: Following the 2020 census, Governor Ron DeSantis pushed through an aggressive congressional map that significantly boosted Republican representation. Federal court cases challenging the map were ongoing as of late 2024.
Texas: The state's 2020 redistricting created a significant pro-Republican skew in congressional districts. A Brennan Center analysis estimated that Texas and Florida alone accounted for 10 extra Republican House seats under maps enacted after the 2020 census.
Georgia: After a court ordered a new Black-majority district in 2024, Republican lawmakers redrew a different, diverse district to turn it Republican, ultimately preserving their partisan advantage.
North Carolina: The state legislature redrew congressional maps in late 2023 that targeted Democratic-held seats. Due to prior court rulings limiting partisan gerrymandering claims, legal challenges focused instead on racial bias allegations.
South Carolina: Following the Supreme Court's ruling in Alexander v. South Carolina NAACP, the state's congressional map was upheld despite challenges alleging racial gerrymandering. In September 2025, the state's Supreme Court then dismissed a separate partisan gerrymandering challenge.
