"Anon where is your magic styrofoam cycling helmet?"
Just to be clear this is not one of those "eat ze bugs", "live in ze pod", "cow farts bad" threads. IDGAF what you eat or how big your house is. Just pilot your 4,000+ pound death missiles responsibly. Thats all I ask.

I bet that driver was speeding. Idiota cyclists, I know but at the same time it is the job of the driver to watch for preventable accidents and be able to stop in time for slower traffic.

Post all of the cycling oopsies you want but 42,000 of you light armored vehicle drivers and passengers died in fiery auto crashes just last year.
Compare that to just 900+ cyclists.
You do the math.

I ride, but I haven't seen a video on this thread yet where the cyclist didn't 100 percent cause it. But keep signaling, eunuch

AI Overview
Studies show that the driver is more often at fault, with some research indicating drivers are at fault in the vast majority of collisions, while others find fault is split or even leans toward the cyclist in certain scenarios like fatal crashes. The exact percentage varies significantly depending on the location and the specific circumstances of the accident. For example, drivers frequently cause accidents by failing to yield, while cyclists may be at fault for violating traffic laws, such as running a red light or riding at night without lights

AI Overview
Drivers are at fault in the majority of cyclist-vehicle collisions, with studies showing driver fault in anywhere from 60% to over 80% of crashes. However, the exact percentage varies depending on the study, location, and specific circumstances of the crash. Factors such as inattention, failing to yield, and improper turns are common causes of driver fault.
Statistics on driver fault
Majority at fault:
Multiple studies indicate that drivers are the at-fault party in a significant majority of collisions. For example, a UK study found drivers were solely responsible in 60% to 75% of adult cyclist crashes. An Australian study found drivers were responsible for 87% of recorded close calls and collisions.
Varying data:
The percentage can vary significantly by location and study methodology. A Hawaii study found drivers were at fault in 83.5% of crashes, while a different study in Arizona found cyclists at fault in 44% of fatal crashes.
Types of crashes:
Common driver-caused accidents include "dooring" (opening a car door into a cyclist), failing to yield at intersections, and making unsafe turns

>it is the job of the driver to watch for preventable accidents and be able to stop in time for slower traffic.
Bullshit. That was on a highway where high speed is the priority and traffic is not expected to come to a stop or slow down except in rare, well marked situations. The responsibility is on others to give the right of way to the fast moving highway traffic. It would be idiotic and against the idea of a highway for the highway traffic to slow down at every intersection because someone "could" pull in front of them. You don't expect people to slow from 65 to 30 mph at every crossroad because someone "could" pull out onto the highway.
A car cruising on the highway shouldn't have to slow down whole passing bikers because the bikers might be fucking retarded and cross without looking.

You're right. We dont and thats part of why 42,000 people died in car accidents last year. We dont teach people how to drive carefully and in a manner that prevents preventable accidents.
Most car accidents are preventable.

AI Overview
In the US, light trucks accounted for the highest number of fatal crashes (43.4%), followed by passenger cars (32.2%), motorcycles (11.0%), and large trucks (9.2%). For passenger vehicle occupants specifically, light trucks and passenger cars together made up the vast majority of fatalities in 2023, with light truck occupant deaths making up a larger share.
By vehicle type (involvement in fatal crashes)
Light Trucks: 43.4%
Passenger Cars: 32.2%
Motorcycles: 11.0%
Large Trucks: 9.2%
By vehicle type (occupant deaths)
Passenger Vehicles (cars, light trucks, vans): 59% of total motor vehicle crash fatalities in 2023.
Light Trucks: Occupant deaths have increased over time due to their growing popularity.
Passenger Cars: Occupant deaths have declined significantly since 1975, though they still represent a large portion of fatalities.
Additional context
Pedestrians and cyclists: 18% of crash fatalities in 2023 were pedestrians and 3% were bicyclists.
Vehicle type and pedestrian/bicyclist deaths: Popular pickup trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado and Ford F-150 are frequently the striking vehicle in pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities, based on data from 2007–2021.
Safety metrics: The death rate per 100 million passenger miles is significantly higher for passenger vehicles compared to buses, trains, and airplanes
