I dont have an issue with getting rid of actual junk food but where do you draw the line? Are those digestive cookies junk food that do have high sugar but also are whole wheat and other good stuff?
Some frozen foods are healthy despite being ultra processed.
There are low sugar sodas that have stevia and other things like monk fruit rather than 28g of sugar they score like maybe 8 grams? Those are healthy.
Most SNAP recipients also have cash income so you really arent mandating health you're forcing them to spend cash on junk food and all they're going to do is eat more ground beef and meat in general if they cant get junk food like potato chips with SNAP.
Then the companies that make somewhat healthy ice cream and chips and cookies suffer the lack of sales as 1 in 10 Muricans are on SNAP. Some just really old and poor. Some partially or fully disabled. Some veterans.
Are you going to deny a US Military Vet a coffee drink just because it has more than 12 grams of sugar per serving? I wont.
They're mostly people that need the program with a some who abuse the system.
