The popular public sentiment concerning trannies is a very "if you're not with us, you're against us" type mentality. If you don't unquestionably support LGBT people, you're the enemy. I've tried to respectfully raise a point, but I've been shut down and called the enemy as well. First they wanted tolerance, now they demand acceptance.

My "controversial" stance on the matter concerning trans people: Nobody should be coerced or made to approve or accept an identity they don't agree with.

Let's imagine the perspective of a man named Joe: Joe does not agree with the whole trans thing, he won't even use a person's preferred pronouns. He is principled and won't budge. However, in spite of his refusal to accept identity changes, he does not wish harm, persecution or abuse on trans people. Joe just wants to live his life and live his truth.

According to trans people, however, Joe's tolerance is not enough. He deserves to be fired from his job and punished because he's still bigoted by their definition.

In a workplace that simply doesn't matter, you leave your politics by the door where it belongs. If you cannot work with people and be professional you shouldn't be in the job. If you don't like their pronouns say their name or they, it's not difficult.

Joe, while at work, is only called Shirley by his coworker. His coworker is principled, and does not understand how any man could be named a name like Joe, when men should obviously be called Shirley and Jacqueline. His coworker understands and tolerates Joe wanting to be called Joe, but his coworker will not budge, he will not call him Joe out of principle.
His coworker just wants to live his life and tell his truth. However, his coworkers tolerance is not enough, even if his coworker will still begrudgingly point at Joe and say "That 'guy'," his tolerance is not enough. Joe wants his coworker fired for making the work environment hostile.

Fundamentally you are paid to do a job and work with other people so what colour their skin is or their gender identity simply does not matter in that environment. If you choose to engage with someone you know you disagree with, you are bringing identity politics into the workplace.
