Nope. It has always been bad in some way. Making the the endless cycle of popup ads a crime was one of the few good things the government ever did.
The early days had no videos or search engines. Then the search engines sucked but were constantly improving. Then the search engines separated the porn from everything else and got kinda good at providing results.
Once that happened censorship went crazy. It should be around 2002 or 2003. I remember that was when every site suddenly started to care about copyright. Mass deletions everywhere for stupid reasons with whoever was behind censoring Kingdom Hearts music leading the way.
At some point many sites introduced a sort by tag system which was of course used for mass deletions.
I knew it was all going to shit when deviant art started telling people they needed to be a certain age to see things.
Everyone scoffs at the "Are you 18+?" check box because they don't realize governments will go to nearly any length to enforce their madness. If they can't get their way in one go they turn it into a slow boil process.
