Where did the old internet go? when did the shittification of internet begin? I have browsed 4chan on and off for 20 years, but the current state of internet has left me mortified, when did it all go so wrong?

Mobile devices ruined the Internet. It started going downhill when the iPhone and iPad came out. Before that PCs were a barrier of entry to the Internet that kept all the niggers and retards out. Now PCs are a minority of how the Internet is consumed.

How is it better? I feel like evey site I'm on, I get fed slop by the algorithm, I don't search for anything, back then I had to go to sites and browse for shitty content, I feel like my brain is getting jabbed by corporate tentacles

Please, is there a person out there who's lived the internet as long as I do? I want to hear from you, is there a shred of old internet culture left?

When 4chan started taking CP censorship seriously. We were the first major site in my memory to give a fuck about what the government wanted. It was all downhill from there. Before that the government made laws but no one gave a fuck. Now that the government has a firm grip on the internet they do what they always do. Ruin everything they touch.
Can't even have a proper search engine anymore because we need to simultaneously cater to every censor on the planet and coddle every toddler that might have gotten ahold of mommys phone.

the internet went to shit when the Web was invented. you had to be at least this smart to even get online.. now it comes with your phone. any idiot can do it.

also /b/ was more creative when people mostly accessed it through desktop machines. phones don't often have good image editing software, so memes ard often imported.
