In the late 90s, I knew a guy in high school that everyone would bully mercilessly who got really big into Henry Rollins during his junior/senior year in high school.
He had no fucking dad and a typical emotionally abusive mother mom who used to be hot shit when she went to the school but who's life went downhill when she got knocked up on vacation by a random chad who refused to marry her and her kid turned out to be the sort of incel loser she used to mock and bully in high school.
He was introduced to Rollins via a college student who was a counselor at Upward Bound, who lent him several of Rollins books (most notably The Solipsist) that took it upon himself to try and be a father figure to the guy and deprogram him of a lot of the learned helplessness his mom had forced upon him to keep him under his thumb.
He started jogging (his mom refused to buy him weights or sign the paperwork our school required to be able to use the football team's workout room after school) and put quotes from Rollins in his notebooks and in his locker to "inspire him". And he ultimately finally punched one of his bullies in the face so hard that he knocked out a front tooth and only managed to avoid getting suspended/in trouble because the bully in question was on probation for drugs and knew if he snitched, he'd be sent to jail due to his probation officer having it out for him and looking for any excuse to nuke his probation and send him to jail.
Last I heard, the nerd Rollins fanboy had joined the army after graduating college (to piss off his mom, as their relationship pretty much collapsed after he got accepted to college and she couldn't control him and she was demanding he move back home with her and get a shitty McJob to support her) and he was now working as a drill instructor. Last photo I saw of him, that he sent to our graduating class's facebook page, had him basically looking like a mini-Henry Rollins as far as him morphing into his idol.
