Blue Lagoon has been brutally hard to hold unless one bought at the lows, which in January of this year (a very short 5 months ago) was under $0.10 per share! I bought in 2021 and even with the small position I had, I seriously considering dumping in the $0.20 range in 2023 and even as late as March and April of this year. I'm in for 4,000 shares at $0.49 and am now fighting with myself as part of me wants to sell and be quite relieved with the small profit and part of me wants to hold because there might be a serious ramp up well beyond the 6x we've seen since the lows. The deposit is somewhat of a Great Bear analogy, they were bought out for roughly 50% higher than current Snowline mkt cap. Permitting timeline really does suck and hampers the return profile of these discoveries. They put in a 2030 target for permits in hand, and as always that is probably an optimistic scenario. While a permit is probably likely I assume the risk is higher than it was for Great Bear in Ontario, so that could make potential acquirers wait and see.
If you had the permit in hand today I'm sure you could sell it for 2-2.5x, but the value has to be discounted as well.

It was, but the leverage on these high margin deposits isn't huge. Mkt cap is US$900M right now without taking into account options and warrants. New resource is 9Moz, so that's already US$100/oz. Capex for a project this remote is going to be relatively high, I think the US$1.25B for a 9Mtpa mill this far out is optimistic.
First 5 full years of production is 2.7Moz, which is perhaps $4B in FCF. From then on out you are looking at maybe $300M/y in FCF for another 15 years.
What does an acquirer want to pay for this? $2B would be 2.2x current mkt cap + say $1.5B capex that's a $3.5B investment with a sub 5 year pay back and then 10% return for 15 years. Sounds about right, and that is assuming permit in hand. Can't really pay much more than that or return will be shit. Would be better if there was clear upside for another multiple decade UG operation, but the deposit as it is right now does not offer that much upside imo.

Maybe it gets bought out in the near term and you make quick 50-75%, that would be a good scenario. If noone buys then you have to wait 5+ years where the stock goes up maybe 10% per year and then 40% when you get the permit or if unlucky 75%+ drop if no permit. And then perhaps another quick gain if taken out at that point.
In the mean time of course stock may go up if new discovery or fall a bit if dilution and no discovery. I think investors are likely to make money from here, but not an exciting opportunity.

That would be a reasonable price if a takeover was announced today I think. The closer the company develops the asset towards commissioning, the higher the premium though. Look at Artemis, the shares there have just trended up since beginning of construction and now at commissioning it's basically around 1x NAV. I expect Snowline to be taken out before they get even close to that kind of NAV multiple and there's going to be years ahead before they can begin construction so for now $2B seems about right to me too. Five years from now if the shares are still trading that number could be closer to $3B at current gold prices, assuming they were to begin construction around that time.

People always forget taxes in these calculations, which is a pretty big mistake. Also typically there is a few hundred $/oz cost on top of AISC, but yes lets say it's $1500/oz for those years at $3k gold and tax is about a third that comes to $300M/y.
A $2B buyout right now would be a great offer for shareholders. I think something like $1.5B is more realistic at this point in time. But that would still make for a great return obviously if it happened near term.

my new Lifezone entry could not have been much better. Looks like a bottom may be in for this nickel stock. Feasibiity study should be released within a month and then they'll secure financing.
