the same people who were flooding finance in the early 2000s have been flooding computer science from like 2016 until recently

i know that worry about AI, technology has a habit of doubling in growth.
i watched vacuum screens and towers both wieghing 40+ lbs reduced to a one ounce rectangle in my pocket that's better by every single measure in just 20 years.

i think part of the reason investors like AI so much is how computationally expensive/inefficient it is
it drives the demand for more hardware like crazy
i don't really know what the social or economic implications of that are, but yeah

the growth of hardware seems to be hitting a plateau for the moment
if there are going to be any breakthroughs, they're going to be in the software, or in the matrix math which neural networks are based on, which LLMs are based on

that's just my guess though
honestly don't know enough about it, maybe the next breakthrough will be in hardware for some reason
maybe that's where most effort/resources are allocated
