Aikido is pretty fun and not intensive at all. I tried it once for a few weeks and there were lots of women and old people. The moves are probably only effective against those people as well. You basically have to cooperate with your "opponent". Someone with equal strength could probably just resist your pulls and pushes. I could see it working on a drunk who tries to grab you by the throat/collar or something, and if it works it would look pretty cool.

Aikido is completely bunk as a martial art (the entire curriculum is based off defending against attacks you will likely not encounter. Also too much traditional-Japanese larping). I however do like Aikido as a low-impact group cardio activity. Martial arts are certainly worth it, but I would mainly advocate for it for social/networking and health benefits rather than self-defense.

i pretty much agree, aikido as a self defence technique really only works on drunks, people who are horribly out of shape, or those who are frothing at the mouth mad. makes sense why women learn it though. they're mostly going to be accosted by those exact types, and if someone who isn't one attacks them then no martial art will really help them much without tons of dedication and training to overcome the physicallity differences.

I don't know any martial arts fags but in my experience usually the biggest psycho just wins. Most people are afraid to really fight with their full strength and seriously hurt others. A lot of times the winner is punching and the loser is doing some kind of defensive grappling. Also there is some ambiguity as to the difference between a fight and an assault. A lot of "fights" are just assaults with a little bit of weak defense from the victim.

This is actually true, but muay tai fighters are still the hardest to beat, it doesn't matter what secrets you know if a muay thai, kick boxer or boxer can knock you out in a few strikes. The only way to get better at fighting is by fighting styles that spar hard constantly are of course going to be better. Western boxers are also hard to beat, a good amateur boxer can knock out most traditional martial artists in under a minute. But a pure western boxer is vulnerable to take downs and knee kicks.

Still like you say, there are still some master in traditional asian martial arts that have battlefield type methods, that they don't teach to the public. Not simple stuff like eye pokes. I learned a little of it after many years of training and even then I was like holy fuck who would have thought of that.

One advantage in the traditional chinese martial arts is short range power, this simply does not exist in the west, or in muay thai.

no, modern wing chun has lost almost all concept of angles and footwork, a western boxer will mogg most wing chun guys simply because of his use of angles, even if the wing chun guy is doing eye jabs. It's good to learn how to throw a punch and shield yourself with your arms and legs, and to quickly create distance and break a grapple. It's also useful to have good stamina and more muscles. It's also useful to be accustomed to people being physically aggressive towards you in a high stress encounter. These are useful skills if you don't have a weapon, or if you do and you want to be able to effectively deploy it while under attack.

All these are useful skills. If your practice of martial arts increases them, it's good. Very simple.

Everyone should carry the best weapon their situation allows for, as often as they can, obviously.

Muay Thai, Combat Sambo, Judo and BJJ are the most effective martial arts. All put together would make the most complete 'fighter'. But all of them alone, especially Judo, Muay Thai are the best chances of success. If you have weight parity or more weight on someone, they are not going to be able to defend a random Judo throw and when they're on the ground they're dead. Even if you're smaller, you use leverage.

Muay Thai is probably the second best. Its higher risk but higher reward, if you don't execute well, and you're significantly smaller you still might get fucked up
