The cruelest mechanism of all diseases is that of depression: When it is acute it prevents you from seeking help. When it is not acute you have reason to believe you'll make it without help.
If you survive your situation will eventually improve. You will learn to make the best of it and break the endless cycle. But you are not cured. Something has changed and this change is permanent.
You're also always at risk of it coming back full swing after a decade of it being tame.
I don't think this change that takes place inside of you when it first gets hold of you can ever be reversed.
It's like nicotine, alcohol and cocaine: Getting hooked initially is very different from relapsing. And no matter how long it's been, it will never be like getting hooked initially again.
