Recently I've been watching these "if English had Chinese grammar" videos. If there's any accuracy to them then Chinese is the dumbest fucking language ever. It's literal caveman talk. They seriously walk around like "I no hungry, I eat morning, belly full". By contrast, their written language is a complete cluster fuck, you have to memorize 50,000 characters because it never occurred to anyone in Chinese history that it would be much simpler to just have characters represent sounds instead of words. I don't know how these people even invented the wheel.

It's efficient. Takes longer to write, especially trad characters, but it's faster to read once you learn them since recognition is near instant and a given piece of information usually takes fewer characters, maybe 1/3 as many (if not for the ordering of the unicode table, translating to Chinese could be used as lossy compression). Most things are written once and read many times so it makes sense to optimise for reading. Now, with phonetic digital writing systems like pinyin, you get the benefit of fast writing and retain the fast reading.

I think a phonetic alphabet is a pretty hard thing to invent. I mean think about it, it's quite natural to use images and hieroglyphics to represent things. And oral language is also quite common, and obvious.

All of the math and science books in China and Japan say otherwise. Unlike most Euro languages, they do not use loanwords for expressing mathematical or scientific concepts. e.g. 可換環 (commutative ring) or 赤方偏移 (redshift)

Japanese is the exception, where computer science terms now borrow from English, but even for computer science terminology, Chinese does not use loan words -- they create new words that capture the semantics of concepts. For instance, 編訳 refers to code compilation, and the letters give the semantics of "tie [text] together and translate". Japan uses コンパイル which is just an English loanword.
