if you wear a jacket or some outerwear, instead of just pants and a shirt, you'll look like you walk often, which will make you stand out less
walk briskly and keep your eyes in the distance, focused on where you're trying to go. this will make people stay out of your way and avoid interacting with you, if that's what you want.
carry a stick if there might be stray dogs or hwatever.
i like to walk on the opposite side of road traffic, that way the cars/bikes pulling up from behind me are less likely to hit me.
you might want to carry a water container.

a stick will scare off 49 out of 50 dogs you encounter
there's like 30 deaths from dogs per year in the US, and most are pitbulls
you can call the cops and/or someone will eventually help get the dog off you, unless you're travelling in between towns on foot

rabies prophylaxis is expensive as shit, but it's readily available, and you no longer have to do the painful stomach injections like you did 30 years ago
