walk briskly and keep your eyes in the distance, focused on where you're trying to go. this will make people stay out of your way and avoid interacting with you, if that's what you want.
carry a stick if there might be stray dogs or hwatever.
i like to walk on the opposite side of road traffic, that way the cars/bikes pulling up from behind me are less likely to hit me.
you might want to carry a water container.
